How do you help me navigate my career with less stress? To help you attain the results you want in life I use a variety of tools. I teach, explore alternatives, inspire, act as a sounding board, build confidence and capability, facilitate learning, ask questions, listen with compassion, develop skills, create ownership, provide a challenge, act as a model, and explore potential. I act as a partner, providing you with tools, support, and structure to achieve more than you might be able to do by yourself.Virtually anyone can benefit from career coaching.
Career counselling and coaching are processes that help you to:
- Make effective career decisions
- Chart your next step in your work
- Set goals and then reach those goals
- Make the best use of your resources
- Develop a learning or educational plan
- Develop mastery in your work
- Achieve balance in your work and life
To determine whether I might be of value to you, consider any of the following questions:
- Are you getting the most out of your life?
- Are you able to have the life you want?
- Are you doing what you want to be doing?
- Are you going to be financially independent within the next 15 years?
- Are you developing yourself professionally in your work?
- Are you doing what you value most in life?
- Do you have the meaning in life that you seek?
Psssst! If you answered “no” to any of these questions, it does not mean there is anything wrong with you, or that you have a “problem”. What is does mean is that you want to gain results; you want to accomplish more in life; and you most likely want to build on your own strengths and resources to get where you want to go. I can help you gain the results you want in the way you want.
How do we work together? As a career counsellor and coach I work with you on a one-to-one basis. I primarily work face-to-face, however, career counselling and coaching can also be successfully accomplished through telephone , Skype® and e-mail contact. I have found that it is ideal if I can meet you face-to-face for our first meeting, and then conduct the process by Skype® and e-mail. Successful career changes typically happen over a three or four month time period. It can be short-term, where I help you to create a vision, achieve a specific goal, or complete a particular project; or it can be long-term, where you receive coaching for a number of projects and goals.
As a part of the career change process, I do not, however, explore past negative issues. While such “issues” may emerge in a coaching session, I am more typically concerned with helping you to achieve results in the present and the future. I may, however, help you to identify or articulate blocks or obstacles to gaining the desired results. This may be one way of acknowledging current realities. At the same time I typically assist individuals to discover their inner resources and other alternatives, which can reduce or eliminate such barriers.
